The U.S. Federal Trade Commission and other global government agencies require that we disclose any relationship we have between a product manufacturer or service provider when we review any product or service. For the sake of clarity, here are the internal guidelines we use:
Our reviews are genuine and honest. If a tool or product is a dog, we say so. We invest our own time, money and resources to conduct the testing and are not obligated to any manufacturer. On occassion we are given a product to test versus buying that product ourselves. The giving of a product in no way obligates us to deliver a favourable review.
If we are ever paid to deliver a ‘promotional’ review, that payment will be fully disclosed in the article or video. However, we will ONLY do a paid review or promotion of products that we would willingly add to our own arsenal in the workshop or home.
Products given by manufacturers for review are not returned. Sometimes they are damaged during testing or simply consumed. Regardless, we do not have the staff or facilities to pack and return tested items.
When we create a link to a product in a review or any post or our newsletter, we may receive a small commission if you purchase that product or service. These commissions are paid by the manafacturer or retailer and not by you. Any commissions earned help offset the cost of running this site.
This site is a labour of love. Seven years after we started giving to the DIY community The DIY Market does not generate sufficient revenue to cover the expenses of running the site. If you see a link to a product that you intend to buy anyway, purchasing via our link will help us to continue to deliver the great content that bought you here in the first place.
